What is “SQ *” on my credit card statement?
A statement line that starts with SQ * was processed by Square. The text after it is the business name the seller set up in Square, so the name that follows is the business you paid, not Square.
What Square says
From the source page:
For Square-generated descriptors, this value is SQ *. Business name - This is the business name shown in the Square Dashboard.

How to check this charge
- Match the business name after SQ * to your receipts, email confirmations and order history.
- Square says a statement description can also include a delimiter and an identifier such as a store number. Its example is SQ *MYPHARMACY*#02943.
Your bank may show the text differently or shorten it.
A prefix tells you which service processed the payment. It does not tell you which business sold you something, and we do not guess merchants. If this does not match anything you bought:
