LLC Cost by State Calculator
Pick a state to see its LLC formation fee and its recurring report or tax fee, each linked to the official source we checked. We could not load every state's official page, so any state we could not verify shows a link to its Secretary of State instead of a number.
Formation plus recurring fees spread evenly. It excludes registered agent, business license, tax, publication, name reservation and filing-service costs.

How to use it
- Choose your state and how many years you want to cover.
- Read the formation fee, the recurring fee and the estimated state fees. Each fee links to the official page we checked.
- Add the costs the calculator leaves out, such as a registered agent, local business licenses, state taxes and any filing-service fee.
How the estimate works
State fees over a period are the formation fee plus the recurring report or tax fee. For a fee charged every two years, the calculator spreads half of it onto each year. Over 5 years, an LLC in Wyoming pays $100 to form plus $60 a year in recurring fees, about $400 in total.
The estimate covers fees charged by the state for the formation filing and the recurring report or tax we list. It does not include filing-service fees, a registered agent, name reservation, expedited processing, publication requirements, business licenses, franchise or income taxes beyond the recurring fee shown, or local fees.
Some states charge more than the Secretary of State fee: California's annual tax is collected by its Franchise Tax Board, and Tennessee and Delaware set annual amounts we could not confirm. Always check the linked official page before filing.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest state to form an LLC?
Among the states we verified, formation fees range widely. Sort the table by formation fee to compare them. The cheapest state to form is not always the cheapest to keep: recurring fees and taxes differ, and an LLC generally must also register in each state where it does business.
Do I have to form my LLC in the state where I live?
Not always, but an LLC formed in another state usually still has to register as a foreign LLC where it actually does business, which adds fees. Check with the state where you operate.
Why does the calculator say it could not verify my state?
We read each state's official fee page directly. Some state sites blocked automated access when we checked, so rather than show a number from a third-party site, we link you to the state.
Is the registered agent fee included?
No. A registered agent is a separate cost unless you act as your own agent where the state allows it.
How current are these fees?
We checked them on 2026-10-14. States change their fees, so confirm on the linked page before you file.
