Free Barcode Generator
Make a barcode in seconds: pick a type, type or paste the number, and download it as PNG or SVG. You can also generate a whole batch from a list or CSV. Use it as a free online barcode generator for inventory labels, shelf tags, shipping labels and more.
Batch: many barcodes at once
Paste one value per line, or load a CSV (first column is used). Uses the type and options above.

How to use it
- Choose the barcode type. Code 128 suits most internal labels; EAN-13 and UPC-A are for retail numbers you already own.
- Enter your value. For EAN-13, UPC-A and EAN-8 you can leave off the last digit and we calculate the check digit for you.
- Download the PNG or SVG. For many codes at once, paste a list or load a CSV and download one printable sheet.
How check digits work
Retail barcodes (UPC-A, EAN-13, EAN-8) end with a check digit that lets scanners catch misreads. Starting from the rightmost digit of the number without its check digit, multiply the digits alternately by 3 and 1, add them up, and the check digit is whatever brings the total up to the next multiple of 10.
Worked example: for UPC-A body 03600029145, the weighted sum is 58. The next multiple of 10 is 60, so the check digit is 2 and the full code is 036000291452.
Code 128, Code 39 and ITF are used for internal labels, shipping and cartons. They do not need a registered company prefix, so you can encode any value they allow.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this free barcode generator to sell products at retail?
Only with numbers you own. A scannable retail UPC or EAN needs a number from a GS1 company prefix, which you license from GS1 US. This tool draws a barcode for a number you already have; it does not assign one. Making up numbers can collide with another company's products.
What is the difference between Code 128 and EAN-13?
Code 128 can encode letters, numbers and symbols and is common for inventory and shipping labels. EAN-13 encodes exactly 13 digits in a standard retail format and needs a properly assigned number.
Which format should I download, PNG or SVG?
SVG stays sharp at any size and is best for printing and design software. PNG works everywhere, including documents and uploads that do not accept SVG. Keep the white quiet zone around the bars so scanners can read the code.
Does the generator upload my numbers?
No. Barcodes are drawn in your browser. Nothing you type or load from a CSV is sent to a server.
Why does the generator say my check digit is wrong?
For EAN-13, UPC-A and EAN-8 the last digit must match the calculation of the digits before it. Remove the last digit and we will add the correct one, or fix the digit shown in the message.
